About
I have a great ability to really teach the techniques to people needed to be able to create great works of art. I have over 20 years of teaching drawing and painting experniece in two very prestigious schools here in South Florida. My students have been viewed as some of the best in the nation, many have gone on to the top art schools in the nation(with scholarships) as well as started very successful careers within the arts!
I love the moment when the lightbulb goes off and the student really starts to see, think and understand the ability to conquer something very difficult in the arts...It is as satisfying as completing my own paintings!
I am also a marine wildife artist. Please go to my website at
www.alanfeldmesser.com to see my works under the Gallery tab, and to see examples of some of my students work go here https://alanfeldmesser.com/instruction/

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I love to see how much experience each student has. My approach for teaching will vary dramatically for each student based upon how far along in their journey in the arts is at already. Once I know where a students ability is, I like to know what they want to accomplish. With kowning these two things I can suggest the proper path in order for each student to acheive their goals in the most concise way possible.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BFA with a major in Painting from Syracuse Univeristy. I also did extra schooling after college in order to become a certified teacher in Florida. I have studied with famous artists like Jerome Witkin(look him up to see his work) and apprenticed with world renowned portrait paintier Ralph Wofe Cowan. I have a very large knowledge of what the important building blocks of drawing from life, color theory and painting are and I feel I can teach anyone to draw anything they really like.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Each private lesson is 60 an hour but I am running a special where I charge 45 an hour. I can travel to you or you can travel to me depending on how far away you are. I can offer a discount if you come to me, as well as if you buy package deals such as...if you want 8 you wil only pay for 7, but I can go into more detail with you about this personally.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching many years ago when I was a few years out of college. I began with very young students (5-8) and then progressed to High School age at prestigious Dreyfoos School of The Arts in WPB. There i found my love for teaching. I quickly figured out a process of getting all the very complicated parts of drawing and painting, to be simplified down to a place where anyone could have a large amount of success as long as they tried.
What types of students have you worked with?

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Finding the right teacher is very important. To me the best way to know what a teacher can do is to ask to view their students work and then see the teachers work...These two things should give you the idea of what that teacher can really do for you....Also I believe no matter what style and or genre a student wants to accomplish, the first step is learning to draw and paint from life. Once you can do this you can be successful at almost any style.
