Gypsy Van H. says, "I learned about the Chubbuck technique when I was living in South Korea. I attended two of Ivana Chubbuck's workshops, one in Japan and one in the Philippines.
I absolutely fell in love with the technique.
However, when I came to Orlando Florida, I started training at a studio that did not teach Chubbuck. And although their technique was very efficient, I wanted something that delved a little bit deeper into your emotions and your psyche.
So, I contacted the Chubbuck studio in LA asking if there was anyone in Florida that taught the Chubbuck technique. And that's when I met Violet Tcherkin.
I love Violet to death, but she and I disagree on things all the time but her willingness to let me speak freely in her classes through my training it's probably one of the things that I enjoy the most. Violet is the type of coach that doesn't want her students to be lapdogs. She wants us to speak up and to tell her how we feel. That is not always the case when it comes to an acting coach.
Every time I come to class, I find new vulnerabilities within myself. That's what I had fell in love with overseas with the Chubbuck technique and what I'm learning to love more.
Violet doesn't pull punches with us as students, let me rephrase, she doesn't pull punches now. When we first started out, she had a little bit of kid gloves. But now that she's gotten to know us, she's able to look at us and just be blunt about what she thinks is most effective when it comes to making us better actors.
There are days I don't want to be in class. There are days when I think she's crazy. There are days when I literally want to turn off the computer and just walk away but to me it wouldn't be acting if you didn't have all of those emotions.
Violet is great at teaching this technique, she's found a way to teach it with her own flair. And she's a damn good coach because of it!
