    Frequently asked questions

As an educator, my central purpose is to ensure that students develop the confidence, skills, and creative insight needed to achieve their fullest professional and artistic potential. I believe that meaningful learning occurs in an atmosphere that is safe, inclusive, and intellectually stimulating—one that encourages creative risk-taking and embraces the open exchange of ideas. Every learner brings a unique cultural, personal, and artistic identity, and it is my responsibility to design learning experiences that honor and uplift those individual differences. My approach to art education is deeply rooted in theories of human development and learning, equity in education, and reflective studio practice. I create environments—both online and in-person—where students feel supported to explore, question, and grow. I view myself not only as an instructor, but as a guide, motivator, and facilitator of curiosity. When students feel safe and inspired, they begin to discover their authentic creative voices and develop the capacity to think critically, responsibly, and expansively. CORE PRINCIPLES OF MY TEACHING • Inspiration & Guidance The instructor must act as a source of inspiration—modeling curiosity, compassion, and enthusiasm—to spark meaningful engagement and self-driven learning. • Creative Autonomy Students must be encouraged to explore their own ideas and experiment with processes that best align with each assignment’s learning objectives. Autonomy empowers confidence and nurtures personal visual language. • Positive Learning Culture A climate of enthusiasm creates momentum. I work intentionally to cultivate a classroom energy—whether virtual or in a studio—that motivates students collectively and encourages a shared pursuit of excellence. • Equity, Access & Respect It is essential that every learning space is deeply respectful and inclusive of all identities, backgrounds, abilities, and orientations. Equity in education is not optional—it is fundamental to student impact, trust, and success. • Technology Integration & Contemporary Relevance Today’s creative world demands fluency in digital tools. I incorporate technology, including emerging platforms and AI-supported research, to help students leverage contemporary resources effectively and ethically. • Assessment as Growth I believe in assessment that supports reflection and improvement rather than limitation. Feedback is developmental, transparent, and tied directly to clear learning outcomes. PREPARING STUDENTS FOR REAL-WORLD CREATIVE CAREERS My decades of experience across art direction, illustration, fashion, advertising, and design allow me to contextualize classroom instruction with authentic industry expectations. I guide students to build habits of professional discipline, collaboration, organization, and presentation. I encourage them to seek internships, freelance opportunities, and portfolio-building experiences beyond the classroom so they can translate classroom learning into tangible career momentum. This professional emphasis consistently results in students producing industry-caliber work, receiving notable opportunities, and entering the workforce with confidence and preparedness. I firmly believe that education must both inspire and equip—and my teaching is dedicated to both in equal measure. CONTINUAL GROWTH AS AN EDUCATOR After more than twenty years of teaching, I have learned that education is an ongoing exchange of knowledge, curiosity, and humanity. Students challenge me to grow, rethink, adapt, and innovate. Teaching not only strengthens my creative practice; it fuels it. The classroom—real or virtual—is where I find deep purpose, connection, and a sense of shared discovery. I remain committed to uplifting students, championing their artistic identities, and preparing them to become thoughtful, capable, and compassionate creative contributors. My goal is to ensure that every learner feels seen, supported, and empowered to meet the evolving demands of today’s visual arts landscape—and to thrive within it.
A multidisciplinary educator and creative professional, Adnan Duane Razack brings more than two decades of experience across higher education, illustration, advertising, and fashion. A graduate of Parsons School of Art, he began his creative career in the early 1980s at Henri Bendel, working with design visionaries Perry Ellis, Willi Smith, and Yves Saint Laurent—gaining a deep understanding of Prêt-à-Porter, Haute Couture, and the power of visual culture. His industry background evolved into creative direction, leading campaigns that combined artistry, brand storytelling, and strategic communication. As a longtime instructor, Adnan has taught across BFA, MFA, and MA programs, developing innovative curricula in fashion, illustration, advertising, drawing, painting, and portfolio development. Recognized for his warm, energizing teaching style, he creates learning environments—both in-person and online—where students feel encouraged to explore, experiment, and develop strong creative confidence. His approach centers on conscious design thinking, visual communication, and empowering each student to discover a unique artistic voice.
Here is a warm, professional, and inviting version that speaks beautifully to your voice as an educator and creative mentor: --- For more than 30 years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching art, fashion, illustration, makeup, and design—helping students of all ages and skill levels discover their creative potential. It is truly an honor to guide others as they learn to draw, paint, design, or explore new artistic practices, and I approach every lesson with patience, enthusiasm, and a genuine belief in each student’s abilities. My teaching style is easygoing, encouraging, and supportive. Many of my students describe me as inspiring, not only because of my experience, but because I strive to build confidence while helping each person grow at their own pace. Lessons traditionally begin at $60 per session, but I offer a starting rate of $30 per hour here to make learning more accessible—and I’m always open to discussing what best fits your needs. If you’re ready to explore your creativity in a welcoming, motivating environment, I would be delighted to work with you.
