Frequently asked questions

At JCW, the team meets with the student, gives them a tour of the studio, and discusses what their needs are. Based on what they are looking for, we find a private or group class that fits those needs.

Jewelry Creations Workshop’s owner and founder Steven Brownlee is an award-winning goldsmith with more than 20 years of experience. He is the lead instructor at JCW in North Miami, Florida, and he teaches beginning to advanced-level jewelry-making classes internationally. Brownlee is a graduate of the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco, where he received an award for Technical Excellence. He is certified with Jewelers of America as a Bench Jewelry Technician and is an active member of the Florida Society of Goldsmiths. He has trained with some of the top goldsmiths around the country in techniques ranging from granulation, fold forming, stone cutting to torch fire enameling and concrete.

Pricing varies based on the length of the class, the technique and the instructor. All class prices are listed on the website.

The concept of Jewelry Creations Workshop began in 2003 when owner Steven Brownlee was asked to teach a class for someone he met at an art show while he was selling his work. At first, Steven declined the offer but kept the prospective student in mind. When the summer rolled around and the art shows slowed to a halt, Steven finally decided to give teaching a chance.

A slow summer and one student later, Steven found a love for sharing the knowledge of the craft he was so passionate about and realized he wanted to become a teacher. And so he went off to learn more from the best and enrolled at the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco.

After teaching for the past two decades, Steven has worked with all types and all ages of students; from children to adults, beginners to advanced, group and private, and women and men.

Think about what you are interested in learning and why. Is this for recreation or are you looking for ongoing classes? Do you have any experience? Review the available class options to see what might be a good fit and to make sure that the teacher/studio offers classes in your area of interest.

Check the teacher's credentials and experience, and look at examples of their work and their students' work. This will give you an idea of some of the types of jewelry that can be made during classes.

Be ready to be creative, have fun, and learn something new!
