About
Eric Eakes earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Viola Performance from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music under the tutelage of his friend and mentor, Jodi Levitz. Eric graduated summa cum laude and his doctoral research culminated in a dissertation on contextual intonation and musical tuning systems.
Based in Miami, Florida, Eric enjoys an active and vibrant career as a performer, teacher, recording artist, and artistic content consultant. He has performed with internationally recognized artists and composers including John Williams, Quincy Jones, Estelle, Andrea Bocelli, Jorge Mejia, Ben Folds, Jon Secada, Garth Knox, Take 5, and Midori. Eric loves working as a recording artist and has recorded for multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy award winning albums.
When he is not performing, Eric enjoys sharing his experiences with eager minds and helping students build the tools needed to achieve their artistic and career goals. He has dedicated years to researching the science of learning and the manner in which memory and the mind interact with musical endeavors. As an artistic consultant, Eric works with musicians on topics such as recording professional quality audio, video, and branding.

What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students ranging from five years of age to sixty-five. All people can accomplish great things if they hold a passion for learning and a drive to practice. I strive to adapt my teaching style to the learning style of the student in order to best guide them on their path to musical discovery.
