Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We like to first speak to the student and listen to their goals and objectives. Then we'll recommend a lesson, a class or a plan to address. Every student is different.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our instructors have over 900 hours of post service instructor certifications and training courses. We offer women only courses by a female instructor. The Senior Instructor is a former West Point grad Infantry officer combat vet with 24 years of service and advanced degrees. The wide variety of instructor certifications include Advanced Rangemaster Instructor (the most demanding civilian instructor cert in the US), all the NRA pistol Instructor Certifications (3), Massad Ayoob Deadly Force Instructor, Crime Prevention Instructor, ALICE Active Shooter Instructor, Sage Dynamics Red Dot Sight Instructor and more...
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Our classes vary in price and are dependent on the complexity of the skills being taught. Generally our non shooting courses run around $40; Shooting courses range from $80 to $300. Private coaching, group pricing and discounts are available.
How did you get started teaching?
Our instructors have been teaching their whole lives due to their military and civilian occupational choices. We love teaching. Doing something one loves while serving others is a blessing and never feels like work!
What types of students have you worked with?
Our students run are incredibly diverse in age, gender, income and family size. We want to serve every responsible citizen and pride ourselves as a "hands on" or even concierge approach to instruction.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask for instructor certifications and experience. Multiple instructor certifications and years of life experiences are pretty important to learning life sustaining skills. What/When was the last training they received is critical! You want an instructor that's constantly learning and open to new ideas. Teaching shooting skills is different than defending your life with a gun. Basic NRA Instructor is range specific training. It is not fighting for you and your loved one's lives. Don't learn scuba diving from someone with snorkeling instructor skills and experience?
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why do I want to learn about shooting a gun?
How much and what kind of experience do I have with guns?
Do I have a gun? If so, what is the make and model? If not can you help me select and buy one?
Am I serious or just curious about defending myself and my family?
Am I teachable, a good student?
