About
Studying classical and practical methods used by great artists of the past is made easy and fun under Eva Roffe's unique instruction.
Although the old masters' method requires discipline and planning ahead, the process is not without spirit and spontaneity.
It may sound difficult but actually simplifies the process of painting/drawing, allowing you to reach a professional level in a relatively short amount of time. While following the old recipes, the artist is free to experiment and create his own methods and techniques, employing new materials and technologies.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin the process the same for all new students. We have an initial conversation to understand their goals and discuss their ideas and expectations. We then cover the process of beginning at Studio Atelier and immediately set the excited student to work on their first painting!
During the process of producing the first painting, we will cover drawing basics, preparing the canvas, transferring the drawing to canvas, brush selection, colors, and working with oil paints.
From then on, I continue to work closely with the student to help select new exciting projects which prove both fun but also properly challenging to ensure continued progress and development as an artist.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
To begin, I've been involved with the craft of oil painting for over 40 years. Along the way, I've attended many professional workshops with top artists and classes at various universities over the years, engaged in professional employment in various art studios of well-known artists, never ceased to stop learning via self-study and combing through hundreds of the most respected books, and traveled the world attending the best known museums to study directly from the works of the Old Masters themselves!
My skill speaks for itself and my work can be seen in local galleries, displayed in the offices of notable institutions, online, and in my studio as well. My capability as a teacher may be judged by the work produced by my students and the countless referrals I receive from them as they enjoy their weekly art sessions!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I have always aimed to keep my art classes very affordable, despite the level at which I conduct them and the quality of the instruction and art produced by my students, as I wish to share my appreciation of the Old Masters and their uniquely effective painting techniques with as many as possible! Remember, this isn't a paint and sip wine style of class, this is for those who seriously wish to embark on the real process of learning to become an Artist in the medium of oil paints, using the established and highly regarded methods of the Old Masters.
ART SCHOOL RATES:
*you may begin with as few as 4 sessions to start, to ensure just enough participation to judge your progress and satisfaction
- $50 per session when buying 4 sessions
- $42 per session when buying 8 sessions
How did you get started teaching?
Just over 24 years ago, I was an accomplished Oil Painter with works in multiple galleries, multiple paintings commissioned and sold, and was propositioned to hold classes. It was then that I discovered I loved sharing my enthusiasm and passion for this craft as much as I had enjoyed painting itself. Shortly after, I opened Studio Atelier.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with hundreds of students throughout my career from all walks of like and of all cultures. Despite teaching some advanced artists, most of my students come to me as complete beginners. My youngest student thus far has been 10 years old and the oldest is currently 85!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Always have a look at the body of work produced by the students and the artist/teacher themselves. See if it is work you are impressed by and a style you wish to learn.
