My main business is delivery of surf boards, paddle boards and kayaks, but I love to teach driving, as I am a certified driving instructor. Helping people is a passion of mine and preparing people to get out on the road is one way I can do that. The patience needed to help you get to where you need to be is not something everyone has, but it's definitely something I pride myself on. There are 5 basic maneuvers needed to pass your test, but that doesn't make you safe to drive on the road. So, yes, we will cover the maneuvers, but will also help prepare you to drive safely on the road.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process for working with a student is to ask questions to see what they do and don't know about driving and to see what their comfort level is. Find out where there are areas of concern and what needs to be addressed. I like to make sure they know the laws as well. After going over all of that, I like to go to a big open parking lot to see if they have command of the vehicle by letting them drive around the lot. Once I have a feel for what they can do, I give them more details about what I want them to do. If it is the first time behind a wheel, lots of students just need to drive and make right and left turns in the lot. Some students have experience behind the wheel, and I would let them work on pulling into parking spaces and backing up. Once I feel they are comfortable enough, I would have them accelerate faster and brake harder to find the car sweet spot. I would teach backing into a parking space as well as parallel parking. Once the student is comfortable, we would go on the road. Small, quiet road first, then working our way up to the highway.
We would also cover the 5 basic maneuvers needed to get your driver's license. Although the maneuvers are needed for your test, becoming a safe driver is more important at first.
