Comp Records Songwriting School
About
In 2017, 10 years after I had written my first song, I was awarded #1 Songwriter in the Nation from legendary producer Quincy Jones and hit songwriter Andrew MacMahon in a nationwide competition! Whether you're just starting out or have been writing songs for years, I would love to show you the methods to my success.
First off, I am absolutely in love with songwriting! It's a way that I can connect with people through my experiences in life. So many people feel like they can't write a song or don't have what it takes but I'm here to show you how you can! I would love to teach you the methods I use to create songs so that you can share your experiences with others through your songs!
The best thing about songwriting is it's a lifelong skill. It becomes a form of meditation and a way to get away from the world for a little while. You might feel bursts of inspiration through emotions and to be able to put that down into a physical form is amazing. Some people write poetry, some write novels, I want to teach you how to write songs!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Well first off we will do an assessment to see where the student is at and where they want to go. I teach certain methods to open up creativity and how to find inspiration through your surroundings and personal experiences. From there I have a general coursework that we will work through so that each student can become the best songwriter possible.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a professional Singer-songwriter and was awarded #1 Songwriter In the Nation by legendary producer Quincy Jones in a nationwide songwriter competition in 2017. I have been writing songs for over 10 years and have performed on stages opening for the likes of: Edwin McCain, Relient K, Cheap Trick, Tim Reynolds from the Dave Matthews Band, Sammy Hagar and many more.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Each lesson is completely different for what the student is looking for.
How did you get started teaching?
It naturally started happening when Singer-songwriters from around the area started reaching out to me to help and work on Co-writes with them.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was out in L.A. at an ASCAP "I Create Music Expo" and it was so inspiring to be around other songwriters and learning new techniques to hone in on our craft!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
It's a very niche market so I would say make sure you get along with the teacher and that you feel that you are growing as an artist and songwriter.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The biggest question is what are you trying to get out of the lessons.
