Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Typical Process:
1. We connect over the phone to discuss the specific area of math that the student is struggling with.
2. The student will send a snapshot of problems needing to solve by text or email to the instructor.
3. We choose a remote meeting location in person or online.
***If in person, we meet at a remote location and if online, the student will be sent a link to join a web meeting, and instruction will follow. If the student chooses to use the Online method, they will receive a 20% discount off of our hourly rates.

How did you get started teaching?
Coach K began working with kids, coaching basketball, volleyball, and softball. Her passion has always been to help develop young girls into young women through sports and academics. She began teaching when some of the girls on her team were struggling in their math class, and were not meeting the requirements to play sports for the school. This was unacceptable to both Coach K and the parents who supported her Coaching. So, she began having study hall, and she tutored these young girls until they were able to bring their grades up and eligible to play. That was a little over 16 years ago.
What types of students have you worked with?
Between the ages of 5 - 45. Elementary to college and regular classrooms to special ed, and everything in between.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Coach K helped a Senior in high school recently, who was failing Algebra II, and needed to pass this class to graduate. She took this student under her wing and not only "tutored" them, but gave them the encouragement they needed. Within 3 weeks, this student went from failing (F), to understanding the concepts allowing them to get their grade to an A.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
To look for a teacher who not only knows the material, however can also integrate different teaching methods when needed. Each student is completely different when it comes to learning, so why shouldn't a teacher be able to teach different methods?
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. Why am I not learning this material?
2. How can I be a better learner?
3. Am I taking notes in class and how can I take better notes?
4. What exactly do I ask of the teacher (ex: instead of asking if there is something they can do to pick up their grade, perhaps ask the teacher if there is a method to help me remember the formula better)?
