Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
After understanding your goals, I will recommend a plan of action for your lesson(s).
A standard lesson is 2-3 hours in length. With advice from a professional, a digital presentation of everything you learn, and on-going support via email - I've had nothing but happy and successful students!
Whether it is for your personal education or to better your business, I will give you clear insight on the best course of action so you are guaranteed to exceed your goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a professional portrait and travel photographer for 10+ years. From managing a high-end portrait studio to developing my own curriculum for photography and Lightroom workshops, I've had the honor of sharing my skills and teaching over 500 students these creative skills.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Online courses start at $29.
How did you get started teaching?
From nannying full time, coaching gymnastics, and helping others learn the creative world of photography, I've always loved teaching.
In 2009, as a portrait studio photographer and manager, I was given the opportunity to build a curriculum to teach to our clients. Since then, I have perfected my curriculum and developed a successful freelance business teaching hundreds of students worldwide.
What types of students have you worked with?
Every age. From pre-teens to retirees, photography is a skill that anyone can learn. And I love teaching everyone! Whether you want to learn for your personal benefit or you are running a business that requires you to know these skills, I can help you develop your photography and editing skills quickly, accurately and with great confidence.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My most recent student has the best story. At 85 years old Martin is spending his time organizing a lifetime of photographs, from scans of old film prints to recent snapshots of his grandchildren and travels, his goal is to properly choose the best ones to create a family photo album that he will print and give to each of his 4 children to have for generations to come.
With a weekly Lightroom lesson (and photography tips as I critique is images), together we are processing over 20,000 images in Lightroom. I'll be teaching him how to edit, enhance, export, and print. Then we will design a beautiful custom album that his family can cherish forever!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Photography and Photo Editing truly require hands-on learning. Be sure that you feel connected to your teacher and that they understand your ultimate goals. What's most important is that you learn at your pace, and you feel you are making progress every step of the way.
I know I can get you well on your way to feeling confident and inspired by your new skills within the first class.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What kind of photos do I want to take?
What do I want to do with all of my photos?
Is this personal or professional education?
