As an Artist, the camera is one of the tools that I use to capture nature’s creations. Nature provides many types of beauty, landscape and the human form. One just has to create the frame work that directs the viewer to the main point of interest. As an artist I use my camera to capture my subject and light as my medium to define and accent the beauty which creates the illusion of mystery and evokes emotional responses within us.
The Digital camera and computer are tools. The student needs to learn how to use the tools and the various lighting effects that can be applied. But first, realize their ability to visualize the scene first, then apply the camera setting to capture the visualized basics will allow capturing the basic image.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
First, your best teachers are creative (artist).
Your instructor must have a minimum of 25 years of field experience (college does not count ) working in all disciplines pertaining to still & film production. Ie; Grip, Intern, photo studio assistant, Still Photographer assistant, assistant video/film camera operator, assistant Art Director, assistant producer, Director or Photographer in their area of expertise. All this needs to be verifible by industry referances or pay stub. If you are thinking about attempting to find employment in the industry the above applies to you.. This is that I look for when I hire a Photographer or crew member. "BUT" if you are looking to take family snap shots....read the owners manual. If you are looking to sell your photos then you must meet a high level of proficiency and quality that will satifiy your cllient and no one else. This level of knowledge is obtained by picking the instructor with an extensive working background as a professional in the industry.
