About

I am a flutist and educator living in Orlando, Florida with over 20 years experience teaching in the performing arts. As a flute teacher, my teaching style is supportive and non-competitive while emphasizing efficient practice and audition preparation. I love to help students get their start on the flute, or to help them prepare to be top competitors in auditions and competitions, including regional and state solo ensemble contests, flute festival competitions and masterclasses, youth orchestras, and concerto competitions.

I am on the faculty at Seminole State College of Florida, and enjoy working with flutists of all ages and levels to develop their individual musicianship. In addition to teaching, I am an orchestral musician, performing regularly with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Brevard Symphony Orchestra, and others.

I believe in a holistic approach to music. I hold degrees in dance and music, and as a certified yoga teacher I work with my flute students to develop a greater sense of mind-body awareness. I also love to guide students in figuring out how music will fit into their future careers, whether in music or another field entirely. I am excited to learn what excites you about music!

Emma continues to be an amazing flute instructor for my daughter. Once my daughter started taking lessons with Emma, her skill level has soared and Emma has given my daughter professional and academic advice that is priceless. My daughter and I highly recommend Emma to any student who wants to excel.

I have been working with Emma for about 4 years now and she is absolutely amazing! I wouldn’t be where I am today as a flute player had I not met her; she completely reformed the way I play and practice and I fully thank her for inspiring me to keep playing flute and major in it in college. She is always so welcoming to include me in the studio when I come home for winter/summer breaks. Please consider working with Emma!!

I love taking lessons with Emma! She always knows what to say to help me get better at whatever I’m working on and gives the best practice strategies and tips! (They’re so good that I’ve been able to use them for other instruments I play). I’ve gotten so much better and lessons are really fun but also helpful. Definitely recommend.

We have been with Emma Koi for two years and my daughter Rhea simply loves learning flute from her. Emma is very patient and her attention to detail has had a huge impact on Her, she is more confident in taking on challenging repertoire. Mrs. koi has guided her to use the right technique and create good playing habits. It is rare to find a teacher who is caring and instills the love of music in a child and inspires them to do better. I know my daughter will have a bright musical future with her as her teacher.
