Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Typically I would like to speak on the phone with a new client before meeting up. During the phone call, I want to find out a few things to see who it is I will be working with. I will ask questions like: how old are you, what level are you playing at, what level of baseball are you working towards playing at, what are your current goals as a player, what do you struggle with, etc. This will help me to form an early roadmap of what I will be needing to focus on with the individual client as well as get to know each other better.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I just finished my 3rd year of professional baseball and have a contract already lined up for my 4th year in 2023 with the Grand Junction Rockies in the Pioneer League an MLB Partner league. I invest in my own training and train alongside some of the biggest names in baseball like, Aaron Judge, Shane McClanahan, Carlos Carasco, JT Realmute, Andrew Mckutchen, Brad Miller, just to name a few.. A few personal highlights of mine. I've managed to throw 95mph and have thrown a complete game shutout at the professional level.
I used to be a certified personal trainer for a year before getting my opportunity in professional baseball. During that time I made workout plans and nutrition plans for my clients and helped them begin to see results as early as 3 weeks into training. Whether it was gaining or losing weight I know how to program a regimin to achieve the desired results!
I have helped many young HS baseball players improve their mechanics and as a result ad 3-6mph on their fastball in a matter of a month!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
The typical training session is an hour.
I also have discounted prices for multiple meetings a week.
As well as workout and nutrition plans together or seperate.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started teaching baseball while playing in college. On wednesday nights after practice we would volunteer at a local little league. I had so much fun helping kids improve their game and enjoyed sharing that success with them.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with players from ages 6 - 22
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently finished up my 3rd year of pro ball with a championship team. I'm looking forward to recieving my first ring next year.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
A good teacher will have played at the level you are wanting to have success in. Granted you can learn things about baseball, but it's one thing to learn from the internet, and another to have actually done it in real life as a job. So look for baseball trainers who either have a long career and succesful business in training, or look for current or ex pros of the game. Those are the trainers who really know what they are doing.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Create a "SMART" goal. A SMART goal is used to help guide goal setting. S = Specific, M = Measurable, A = Achievable, R = Realistic, and T = Timing. When you can figure out all this criteria as it relates to you and your goal, you can then increase your efforts and focus towards achieving the goal in a realistic way.
