Heartmann Photography
About
I have been a professional photographer for 25 years. I began studying 35 years ago. I have photographed 100's of weddings, family portraits, scenic photographs, etc. I have had several people that I have trained in the art of posing, how to work with clients, technical aspects of your camera including lighting, special effects, what equipment you may want to add to improve your photography as an art form. I would love to show others how they can love photography as much as I have.
I enjoy helping others learn to be passionate about their photographs. It is fulfilling to see someone's amazement at what they can do with their camera by looking at things in a different way. I have loved photography for over 35 years with a passion and I love to see others get excited and watch it develop into their own passion !! I am a people person and genuinely love being able to share what I know with others !!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I want to find out what the student is looking to achieve first. Is this to improve their photography for personal reasons? Is this because they are thinking of starting a part time career, full time? Once I determine this we can begin to structure lessons around their goals and find out if we begin with basics or do they know the basics and want to improve their skills.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied through the NY Institute of Photography. I also studied with the Professional Photographers of America as well as the Texas Professional Photographers Association. I have been running my business for over 25 years. I have photographed hundreds of weddings, family portraits, Seniors, maternity shoots, and various events. I have had my work published in a photography book as well as have earned many merits in photography over the years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
If someone wants to have private sessions the fee is typically $100 for a one hour session. ( these are hands on lessons at a location we both agree on) If anyone wants to bring an interested person to share the lesson, the cost for 2 or more people is only $75 each. There is no minimum number of sessions. Clients can have one lesson or arrange several. Whatever they are comfortable with.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching photography back in 1995 when I was working for a photography company and was asked to teach all of the new photographers coming into the company. I loved teaching and over the years have enjoyed helping others learn the art of photography. Although I started my own company after leaving that company I have had students ask to work alongside me during events or photo sessions so they may also learn techniques necessary to make their shoots successful as well.
What types of students have you worked with?
College students who have studied photography but needed a little additional tutoring in lighting. Retired people looking to begin shooting as a hobby. Mother's wanting to be able to photograph their own children beautifully. People wanting to learn the art of wedding photography.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be comfortable with who you want to work with. Be honest about what your skill level is so we know where to begin. Be prepared to LOVE your images more than ever !!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What type of equipment do they need to learn with.
How often can we work together for lessons.
How available is your instructor for questions when NOT in a session.
