About
Hi my name is Derrick Jones. One my main focuses when I coach is fundamentals. Fundamentals are very important to the fabric of becoming a better player. Without fundamentals when you are playing against equal talented players. That can be the separation between winning and losing. So I work on a lot of basic ball handling, footwork, passing, shooting properly to become more efficient and also movement. REBOUNDING is huge, Boxing out, Teamwork, communication. Preperation.. These are small things and they not flashy but very important to work on all the time. My enjoyment is teaching.. you have to love what you do and want to do it!
The thing I enjoy most is just working with Kids who are hungry and passionate about just improving their game. . I've been in coaching now for about 5yrs. I started out coaching in a youth development league. I did that for two yrs. I went on from that to then coaching a girls travel ball club here locally which I am currently still coaching and also an assistant coach for a local private high school. I try and keep thing very easy and laid back but also make sure the kids enjoy the process & get the work they're looking for.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My process when working with a new student is first talking to them and seeing how they feel. Just getting to know the personality. Then second would be getting them on the court and seeing their skill level and what they are good at and what needs to be more of a focus. Then put a plan together for them.
