About
Jamie Kirkell About the artist:
My life changing experience brought me to the Art of painting on Silk. Upon graduating from Ohio State University, 1966. I spent three years as a US Peace Corps volunteer in the Philippines. Afterward I went to Java and studied Batik under Indonesia’s Master Batik Artist Bambang Oetoro. The opportunity to live and work with a master craftsmen quite literally opened me to my life passions within me. The love of textile arts and the connection of art for my spiritual direction. I am in my studio in Sarasota Florida preparing a major exhibition of Orchid paintings on silk. I can still see that young person that sat down to study Batik in Indonesia 35 years ago. Today, I still feel the same creative spirit in the world of silk and I am delighted to share this with you.
Previous to moving to Sarasota I was a art director and artist working in New York City with two exceptional silk artists. Our commission works are displayed throughout the United States and Europe. www.kirkellsilks.com
