About this pro

I am a student at Savannah College of Art and Design who is currently studying in the fields of portrait painting, classic oil painting, and acrylic. Painting has been a passion of mine that I have been diligently pursuing and developing for nearly 10 years. My work is unique as I have established a specific idea and palette that pertain to my ideal depictions and visions. I have had years of experience as a student and also as a teacher, working in different style environments including parties, one on one, and in classrooms. I have sold and displayed works of art through my school as well as in various shows around the Atlanta area.

I enjoy getting to know other artists and seeing through of painting through different levels of experience and intentions. I love working as a teacher towards students that can also teach me about myself and what it means to dissect and articulate the techniques of painting. Nothing to me is more fulfilling than working with paint and the hard work that results in a finished painting.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I'd like to get started by understanding what your goals are as a painter and what type of painting you'd love to be focused in! There's such a huge world of painting that includes so many different approaches and I'd want to use my experience to help guide you in the direction that pertains to your passions and interests. We can start out by drawing from inspirations, including simple designs that can allow me to provide you with the artistic technique to perfect and realize your ideas. This includes getting familiar with the medium of your choice, understanding consistencies and capabilities of the paint, and using skills to develop a strong sense of purpose, color, and successful rendering. From there we can begin taking a more complex approach towards painting and work together to accomplish what you as the student are hoping to achieve as a painter.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I studied independently as a student throughout high school teaching myself technique and developing skills in acrylic and water based painting and have spent the past 3 years as a student at Savannah College of Art in Design learning various design, oil painting, and color theory standards. I have completed and sold many large scale paintings and I enjoy challenging myself by always trying something new! I hope to bring that into my teaching style and use my first-hand experience with me as an important asset.

I have worked in classroom settings as a teacher but prefer one on one lessons.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Acrylic painting lessons $40 a session and for oil painting $50 a session.

However, pricing may vary and I am open to accommodating for different financial situations.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

After painting, a passion of mine would certainly be music and an event that I'm most recently fond of is seeing a musician, Joanna Newsom, live in concert last September.  She is someone who I feel as an artist can do no wrong and I love her poeticism and abilities to capture beauty in such a pure, sincere way. Something I certainly aspire to. :-)

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Something that is important for me (especially as a student myself) is just knowing that every person is capable of achieving success in the skillset of painting. It is a beautiful and wonderful field and the only trick to it is being involved in the practice itself and understanding what you can do to be in control and manipulate colors and texture to make a visually well-rendered painting. There is no need to spend great amounts of money on supplies or lectures when the greatest teacher is yourself and someone who is equal to you that is interested in a mutual result.
