Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been an artist, seamstress, and crafter for over 45 years with Realism and Impressionistic and caricature background, alterations and clothing design,. Selling my art pieces at Art Festival, Consignment, and many Commissioned works by private individuals. I have sold my paintings, my originals, spanning from east coast to the west coast. My art pieces are displayed in private homes in Utah, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Delaware, just to name a few.
I have been contracted by area clothing designers to make fashion expo pieces and personally designed ",Period Wedding Dresses" (Antique design, Retro, "Turn of Century Style". I especially excel in formal "embellishments" for individuals as well. Currently I am not holding "group lessons" due to limited workspace, but can comfortably accommodate 2 students at the same time. I have an active watercolor class going on bi-weekly on Wednesdays at 12 noon at my location in Conyers GA. I would like to start n acrylic class on the corresponding Wednesdays in the same time slot or from 2:00-4:00pm.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
All lessons are currently $28 per hour, $38 for 90 minute lessons/classes. Should a Student require the teacher to hold lessons at their locations and additional $15 travel fee is added to the lesson cost. All lessons fees are non-refundable and must've received no later than 24 hours in advance to ensure student commitment to avoid conflicts with other student lessons. I do not offer group classes/lessons , or lessons for under age 16, currently due to lack of interest and scheduling availability conflicts.
How did you get started teaching?
Due to needing major surgery , and not being able to work a full time job, I started teaching as a way of sharing various craft, art, jewelry making and sewing expertise as a source of additional income. It is very rewarding to teach someone any one of my many passions of creativity and see them excited about learning.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with women, young and old, young men desiring to become designers, aspiring artists wanting to "fine tune" art techniques, and crafters wishing to make their own jewelry.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently an art student had a sketch that she wanted to "improve" on. She knew her shading techniques needed "some work". After just 2 lessons she had improvement in her perspective and shading to get a more realistic look to her sketch of a family pet.
Now she has graduated into doing watercolor landscape artwork. What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher who can cover all aspects of what you are trying to ultimately accomplish. A teacher should be able.to fully explain the tools.needed, methods, have knowledge of basic techniques as well as advanced, and be able.to start lessons from the very initial approach as if learning from the 1st time ever, and be patient while explaining steps in the lessons. A "plus" is when that teacher can share with you examples of their works and does not hesitate to share with you to help in your decision whether it is a good fit to hire them.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think through what YOUR GOAL is in hiring the teacher. Ask specific questions you might have about the "craft" you are inquiring about with respect to the ultimate goal in your mind. Make sure you ask for teacher's availability with regards to YOUR availability. Always ask about flexibility in scheduling with potential teachers.
