What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I find out what they already like to photograph and what frustrations they have had taking pictures in the past.We set some goals, then I come up with fun lessons for them to acheive their goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been teaching for over 25 years and have been running my photography education program for four years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
It depends on the nuber of students. group rates are bewteen $10-20 an hour and private lessons are roughly $50 and hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I taught preschool when I was going to nursing school and fell in love with education. Four years ago, I decided to combine both my love of teaching and photography. Boom! Camera Class (my business) was born!
What types of students have you worked with?
Every single type you can think of! I've taught four year olds and forty year olds photography and everything in bewteen and above!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently did a birthday party where I taught several little girls how to use digital cameras. We went on a scavenger hunt and had a costume fashion show, it was amazing!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone who has has experience as a professional in the feild as well as teaching. Find someone who is fun because learning camera settings can be boring and overwhelming if the person isn't fun.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Have you ever taught before? Do you enjoy teaching? Are you fun? Will you be able to help me via email or video chat if I have any questions when you aren't around?
