About
Hello,
My name is Mike Moon. I've been a full-time photographer for more than 20 years. I specialize in portraits, weddings, product photography and more. I'm also an expert at various kinds of flash, including on-camera, off-camera and powerful strobe lighting for indoor set photography.
Whether you're a beginner, intermediate or expert, I can teach you quickly and efficiently to stand out in this industry.
It's tough to know who to trust for information.Thats where I step in. I’ll teach you anything about photography, from the basics to using flash and post production. I'm an established teacher and have built mulitple photography businesses by training dozens of photographers. I currently shoot weddings at Ember Studio. www.emberwed.com.
I started my career as a combat photojournalist in the U.S. Marine Corps. Then I photographed commercially for The Home Depot for more than a decade. I now shoot weddings for my own business, Ember Studio. I've shot more than 500 weddings in my career.
I also photograph commercially for many large and small clients, including tabletop product photography and products in white.
Throughout the years, I've photographed with all brands of cameras, including Canon (12 years), Nikon (6 years), Pentax Medium format (10 years), Phase One (5 years) and now the incredible Sony A7 iii (1 year.).

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I love my job. Every wedding I photograph quickly becomes my favorite as I get to know the couple and families in front of my lens. A recent destination wedding I shot in Cancun, Mexico, stands out as one of my favorites.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who knows and teaches flash. The sooner you learn to control lighting, the better photographer you'll be in the end and the faster your career will progress. It's also a great differentiator today. With all the talk about "natural light," very few people recognize that flash can look completely natural, and even replace the sun on cloudy days, if used properly.
