Spanish With Johanna
About
¡Hola! I am Johanna. I was born in Colombia and I am a native speaker of Spanish, I have always been passionate about learning new languages and their cultures. As a teacher, tutor, and language coach, I put a great effort into creating authentic and engaging material for well-rounded lessons in which the learner is at the center of the interaction. When you become my student, your overall interests become my interests; your goals become mine too. I will challenge you from the beginning to be a good language learner, understand your style, and find what best works for you to make constant and measurable progress. I motivate you to talk, communicate, and express yourself in the best Spanish possible. We all have our limitations when it comes to learning a new skill, but I believe that with a structured approach, effort, practice, and constant feedback from both sides, we can cultivate your second language and grow towards proficiency.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I offer a free trial session where we discuss your goals and I assess your level. I then proceed to suggest a preliminary program to start tackling your specific needs from our very first session. As I continue to learn about you, your needs, and your preferences I adopt the program, which is always flexible. I flow at your pace and embrace spontaneity while bringing in the formal aspects of the language to match the flow of our sessions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I earned an undergraduate degree in education. I am a professional teacher of languages.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
If the student desires to take lessons at their own pace and convenience without any commitment, I offer a fixed hourly rate. If the student is willing to commit to multiple sessions a week I offer discounts starting at two weekly sessions and offer extra discounts for bundles. I try to accommodate my students and their budgets. I can always find a way to offer options.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching during my last years in college. It was a language school in Bogotá offering English group lessons to Spanish-speaking adults. It was all very fun and the program was built to help students meet their goals offering a variety of engaging classes, from conversation to games, to grammar sessions, and even karaoke.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from all walks of life. Every one of my students are from different age-groups, have different professions, and cultural backgrounds. Especially in my experience teaching adults, I've had the opportunity to work with a significantly diverse group of people.
