Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Finding out their goals and what they are looking to accomplish in their work . Seeing what the Natural skill level is .I think Getting to know their personality as well since this will be reflected in what they design even if only subconsciously .
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am constantly continuing my own education. I go to yearly Art conferences ( some international) . As we speak I have a current scholarship and am attending The Southern Atelier . I also take side master classes .
My early life :
I commonly referred to myself as a maker of things long before I realized I am an Artist .
I have always had a love for art and creating things . I was either drawing , painting , or making something from the clay pit I dug up in my yard as a child . At times I would even take things apart just to be able to put them back together . I had a keen interest with figuring out how things worked . This came in handy as an adult working in the dental lab since I was responsible for caring for and fixing my own machines when needed . At an early age I was pulled aside by art teachers in school and put into advanced art enrichment classes . The school purchased a painting from me when I was 14 yrs of age . I also made my first sale outside of school selling another painting at age 15 . That same yr I Recieved a scholarship to go to The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College for the summer . That was my last true art class .
As an adult I took a slight hiatus from traditional art and went into making Porcelain crowns and bridges in a dental lab . One might think this isn’t art but it truly is , since your making lifelike mini useable sculptures . It takes precision and great patience . One millimeter off and it’s not going to work and will have to be remade .
I also had the opportunity to learn how to make fine jewelry , waxing and then casting gold pieces . Along with polishing and finishing . Since all of the same tools and methods were used in the dental lab for the most part , and I had them at my disposal .
I now give private Art tutoring classes . I am an active member of The Portrait Society of America , as well as The Georgia Watercolor Society .
