Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will do a phone consult and perhaps a meeting for 30 minutes with my client, with a set of questions about their goals, and emphasis, go over rate, and their tools, and what they hope to gain from working with me.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been trained as a professional dog trainer, been around people and children, and I know how to coach them with a praise-coach-praise approach where they feel empowered about learning.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard price is $25 per 45-minute lesson.
If longer outings are desired, my rate is $100 per outing. An outing typically lasts 2 hours and gas would be included.
How did you get started teaching?
I have an older brother with autism that I started teaching at age 8, when I was in high school.
I went on to teaching as a paraprofessional after college, and during when I worked with children for a local charity.
The qualities I learned are patience, being animated, and one-step learning.
What types of students have you worked with?
Low-income children
Children with Autism
Children with a lot of Energy
De-motivated children
Inspired children
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I love working with animals in my photography because they are inspiring and often help people connect when it is difficult.
A recent session I had with my cat Merlin, where he was playing with me while I was reading sheet music, is just an example of how something tiring can be made fun by the presence of a hobby you enjoy, or an animal you love!
