About
As a Cobb County native, I have a great understanding of how the music programs work in our area, and I am set up to help you or your child excel on the flute and/or piccolo. I have been teaching for 20 years. I also have two children of my own in one of the local programs.
I am passionate about teaching flute, and I also have a lot of fun while doing it. My main goal for every student I teach is to instill a lifelong love of music and playing the flute. It doesn’t have to stop after high school or college!
I love working with teenagers, drawing them out, finding out what interests them both related to the flute and beyond. I enjoy celebrating my students’ successes (of which there are many), but I am also right there when something doesn’t go quite as well as you would have liked.
I am a lifelong learner, too. I regularly attend masterclasses and flute conventions, as well as seeking out knowledge from other music teachers. I want to be the best flute teacher I can be, and that means I learn right along with you. I was even selected through audition to be one of twelve to play for Sir James Galway, and I was 37 years old!
Just like many of you, I began playing the flute in the sixth grade. However, I didn’t get a sound for the first six weeks! This has made me passionate about the flute sound, and I know how to make anyone’s sound improve.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Every new student is entitled to a free trial 30-minute lesson. During this time, I want to find out all about you, and I want you to get to know me. I’ll hear you play a little and will give you a few pointers to make improvements right away, whether you agree to future lessons or not. I’ll also ask you A LOT of questions to see what you already know about music and the flute. From there, we can decide if I am the right teacher for you and if you are the right student for me, and we can look at my studio policies and contract.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor’s degree in music education from Furman University, as well as a Master’s degree from the University of Georgia in flute performance. I continue my education regularly through online courses, online and live masterclasses, flute conventions, and participation in local large ensembles.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Regular lesson pricing is as follows:
4 30-minute lessons per month, $120
4 45-minute lessons per month, $160 **preferred
4 60-minute lessons per month, $220
Special 6-week summer programs (6 45-minute lessons), $220
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching while completing my bachelor’s degree in music education. It was a natural result of my studies, and I have been teaching ever since.
What types of students have you worked with?
Any and all! My private flute students have ranged in age from 6 to 70! Some are very serious, some are here just for fun.
I also regularly work with local middle and high schools during the school day, working with each band’s flute sections.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
It was just yesterday! Through a collaboration with a great flute company in Boston, I was able to have four awesome new flutes sent to me for one of my students to try. In this very low pressure environment, she was able to try them all, and went home with a brand new shiny flute. I am thrilled for her!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Insist on a free trial lesson! Like anything else, there are so many great flute teachers out there, and you have to be sure you really like the teacher you’ll be working with. Some of my students spend seven years or more with me.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What am I really good at on the flute?
What do I really need help with?
What are my goals for this school year and for the future?
What can the teacher help me achieve?
Am I willing to regularly practice the amount the teacher asks for?
