My teaching approach:

I teach the student how to BE as bass player. S/He learns the role of a bass player. Lots of attention is paid to rhythm, grooves, steady tempo, jamming, and following chord charts to create a bass line. I encourage improvisation of bass lines using a chord chart as a guide.
