About

My name is Isabella Fleming and I both English as a second language as well as literature skills. I recently graduated with a degree in Linguistics from the University of Georgia, and I minored in both Korean and Teaching English as a Second Language. Through my internship at Whitehead Road Elementary School as well as my former tutoring experience, I have come to have a passion for teaching literature and helping multilingual students progress in school! I believe the best way to encourage language learning is to teach in a multilingual classroom, and I am a firm believer that reading and writing are important tools of cultural exchange as well as overall learning. I look forward to meeting you, and feel free to message me with any questions about my teaching.

Frequently asked questions

When meeting a new student, I schedule our first meeting to be an intruduction between myself and my student. I ask the student their goals for the class, and then structure my lesson plans around their goals. For example, if one student wants to improve their reading skills, then my lessons will include a high level of reading material and practice.

I have a Bachelor's in Linguistics from the University of Georgia, with minors in Korean and Teaching English as a Second Language. I have also tutored in the past, as well as worked as a student teacher in an English-Learning classroom for elementary students. This fall (2024) I will be returning to UGA to pursue a Master's degree in Comparative Literature and Intercultural Studies.

I charge between $30-40/hour depending on the level of teaching and materials required for the students. However, prices are negotiable and can be discussed in any informational meetings arranged.

I’ve always loved reading, writing, and languages, and my goal is to one day be a professor. I began tutoring other students when I was in middle school during a free period I had, and I was hooked! In college I went on to do an internship at an elementary school and it deepened my love for teaching even more.
I’ve primarily worked with students in ESOL classrooms, focusing on both English acquisition as well as reading and writing skills!
I was recently accepted into UGA's Comparative Literature and Intercultural Studies Master's program! I am so excited to return to UGA and continue my education.
Look for a teacher willing to adjust to your learning goals and interests. If you really want to focus on reading, but your teacher makes you write vocabulary words over and over in a notebook, that teacher isn’t for you! Clearly state your goals and interests to your teacher, and understand that respect goes both ways; they should respect your goals as much as you respect their teaching. If they cannot adjust their curriculum to your goals, then maybe it’s time to find a different tutor.

I would suggest making a list of your goals for learning. For example, if you would like to focus on listening comprehension, improve your essay skills, or focus on common phrases used in everyday conversations, etc. This way your teachers can plan lessons to best help you succeed in reaching your goals. It may even be worth mentioning your personal interests; that way, teachers can plan lessons that interest you! For example, if you want to work on your essay skills and are interested in video games, perhaps your teacher can create essay topics about games.
