I have studied many different types of art, and enjoy sharing what I've learned with others. I teach specific courses I've developed to learn traditional skills such as beginning drawing, figure drawing, color theory, how to begin a painting, and many mediums including oils, acrylics, watercolor, charcoal, graphite pencil, pen & ink, and pastel.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I evaluate the student’s current level, then ask them what they would like to be able to do. We work together to fill their knowledge gaps and give them the tools to create as they would like.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have over 30 years of experience teaching art to all ages, both individually and in groups.

Individual lessons are $70 for a two hour lesson.

How did you get started teaching?

I have always loved art and sharing that love with others. I started helping friends with their projects in college, and never stopped.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with people who have never drawn, and people who have been painting professionally for years. If you are open, there is always something new to learn.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Find a teacher who encourages, rather than criticizes. Art can be very personal and private. Doing art in front of others can be scary. Choose a teacher who will draw you out and challenge you.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What do you WANT to do? Have some examples of art you’d like to be able to produce. This helps ensure what you are taught helps you reach your goals.
