I teach individuals or groups at public locations thoughout the area. We paint outside and I emphasize composition, value and color to maximize impact. We paint the local landscape, cityscapes, historic houses and more. I am a award winning professional Plein Air Painter and teach at Kennesaw State and run workshops nationwide.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Initial phone interview to verifiy equipment needs and the abiity to access areas we will be painting at

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$50 per hour individual, $35 group up to six. Minimum 3 hours. Workshop rates $220 per student for two days minimum 6 students. 


How did you get started teaching?

As a professional it's necessay to teach and pass on your knowledge. I enjoy it too!


What types of students have you worked with?

Mostly older but some very young. Most have some art background and an ability to draw.


Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Recently gave a workshop for Gilmer Arts in Ellijay for six students ranging from 13 to 70. A great area to paint and we had a productive two days. Each student did at least one painting a day.


What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

This is a learned ability and instuctors should have extensive portfolios and reputation for sucess in Plein AIr. Studio panters are sometimes not comfortable with working outdoors. 


What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

How able am to stand and work for long periods outside in the elements. Do I have the right equipment. Do I have some basic drawing skills.
