I have many years of experience. I started shooting film, both 35mm and medium format. I made the switch to digital at the point when it matched the capabilities of film. I can teach at any level, beginner or advanced. I will help you understand the relationship between aperture, shutterspeed and ISO as well as rules of composition and different lighting tehniques. If you already have a good grasp on the technical side, I can help you take your photography to the next level by working on advanced lighting techniques, posing or even Photoshop skills.
I also have a degree in Technical Education so I'm able to teach technical subject matter in a way that is easily understood by all.
Working with people. Being a photographer requires people skills and it's a pleasure to get to meet and work with many people.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to assess the experience level of the student first and find out exactly what it is that they would like to learn, then customize an experience based on what they want/need to learn. I usually begin with fundamentals such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO, but will customize to the needs of the student if they're at a more advanced level or they'd like to learn something different.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have many years in commercial, wedding and portrait photography. I also have a degree in vocational technical education, so I'm able to teach my passion.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing starts at $35/hr for beginner and intermediate lessons. Advanced lighting techniqes will be quoted depending on the level of lighting gear required for the lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
Simply through family and friends looking to improve their photography whether it's DSLR or Point & Shoot. I like to challenge people to get the most from any camera that they have, even if it's just their phone.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've taught high school students in a formal classroom and field setting as well as adults with various levels of experience.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
From a teaching perspective I really enjoy teaching young people. I recently taught students in a private school. We started with fundamentals in the classroom where we analyzed a lot of pictures and what made them good and other images that could've been better. We then went out into the field and practiced what they learned.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher with experience! Not only an experienced photographer, but experience in speaking and teaching. It's important to be a successful photographer, but it's equally as important to be able to teach it. Not all photographers can teach their trade.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
A general sense of what they would like to do with their photography. I'm usually able to speak with my prospective students and find out exactly what they're looking for a develop a curriculum that suits their needs.
