About
I have over 25 years experience as a therapist so I feel I'm a good communicator and a personable teacher. I like to focus on helping students grasp principles. Once they understand they can transfer the knowledge to whatever medium, ie watercolors, acrylic, oil, etc. And for those who are interested in learning about using acrylic paints or painting landscapes, I have extensive knowledge in these areas. I want to make sure and help each student work toward and reach their creative goals.
I also have several years experience creating with alcohol inks. These inks have strong and vivid pigments and are usually used on non-porous surfaces such as metal and tiles. They can produce some very interesting effects and are fun to work with.
There are multi-dimensional benefits for me. I really enjoy developing a skill - there are infinite levels of skill growth in creating. Along the same lines, along with the development of the skill comes a self-esteem boost as well - anytime we develop a sense of mastery of something it can help us feel better about ourselves. Also creating is fun and addictive! That is if we don't get too perfectionistic :). And finally it is also therapeutic and can be used to externalize and give form to troubling thoughts and emotions to facilitate processing.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Start small, easy and fun. Then as skills develop work on more complicated projects.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have approximately 10 years experience painting and doing crafts of all kinds. I have taken many hours of lessons and learned much from a local professional landscape artist. I have also engaged in many hours over the years of self study reading books and watching art videos either on YouTube or that I've bought.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Individual Lessons: $40/1hr
Group Lessons: $25/1.5hr (min 3)
How did you get started teaching?
People visit my booth at the local markets and see my art. Over the years as the quality of my work improved, people started asking if I teach lessons/classes. I feel like teaching something that I've had experience with comes very natural to me. I want to share the joy I've had in my experience with others.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure and check out their work and see if it is of the quality and style you are looking for. Also if fees seem high ask if there are other options, eg, group lessons.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
If you haven't already, study different art styles to find the style and medium you would like to learn.
