About

I love what I do and I know the extreme inner satifaction when the created image matched the vision. My goal is to get the student to understand the science and art of photography and capitalize on their strengths and bolster their weaknesses. I have been able to achive this countless number of times over the past 20 years. I share my experinces as a working professional as well as hear the client's goals and guide them into a direction of learning they desire. As a former camera store owner, I'm very familiar with all the equipment that is out there and so I'm able to teach a student with their gear or recommend differnt gear based on their goals. This is always a part of the training.

I'm also a commercial photo lab owner, so I understand the print side of photography very well. From the digital manipulation of an image for display (print) purposes to chemically developing film and prinitng film or digital images the right way. Chemically.

From shooting professionally, to owning a camera store, to owning and running a commercial and retail print lab, I have very well rounded experince and exposure (pun intended) in the industry that is very unusual. Many have done one or maybe two, but not all.

Lastly, I have also had the opportuntiy to present many topics for learning at several photography seminars or conferences including Out of Chicago, CAPS, and many local area camera clubs.

I enjoy people, love seeing that "AH-HA" moment being reached. It's a very exilerating to walk someone down the path of new learning and experinces that bring them joy and satifaction. Some are in it for the income, others are in it for personal satifaction. Doens't matter to me. I will guide them and instruct them based on my experiences and their ability to learn and challenge them to grow and excell to reach their goals.

    Frequently asked questions

Everyone learns differently. My first task is for me to find out how a student learns and tailor my style of teaching to not only enable the student to absorb information but to retain it.

34 years as an active professional commercial photographer. 12 years as a photography instructor holding classes in my own camera store. Host or co-host of numerous photograhy workshops around the country.

For basic beginniers photography the first session is 90 minutes. It's one on one and it's $120

After that since every student is at a differnt place educationally and has very differnt experiences. I have to go with time spent, location,  if we're traveling, and topic. So it's a quote on the opportunity.

I started teaching beginners photography courses in my camera store for many years. Classes of 10-12 students every week. That's how I began to recognized the various learning levels and differences. Prior to that I held a position in the military that had me giving briefs and presentations regularly, which helped me overcome my aprehension to speaking to a room full of people.

I have tought photograhy to 4-6th graders, 7-8th graders and highschool through a home school co-op. Also worked with every age group and skill level in photogtraphy during basic or beginners, advanced technique, special processes, and fine tuning techniquies. I'm currently working with beginniers from 22 years old and up. My oldest customer is 77 years old.  I currently run photographic workshops through the midwest and central plains. Many of thoses clients are at some advanced level and even professional.
