Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I have an open conversation with the player and parent(s) to learn why they are seeking individual instruction. I want to understand their current playing level and what is their motivation for taking lessons. I ask the player specifically what their biggest challenges are so I can map lesson plans.
Are they trying to make their high school team? A beginner wanting to learn the game? An advanced player looking to hone his swing?
Regardless of age or skill level, I want to help your player reach his goal!
I feel it is necessary to create trust with the family and player because to truly improve multiple lessons are required. I want the player to feel comfortable working with me over the course of multiple lessons.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Former High School Player
Former College Player
Current Youth Travel Coach (14 years)
Current Paid Hitting Instructor
Years of work with my daughter and son who are former middle infielders on their college teams.
A lifetime student of the game
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Please note my rates listed below are based on using a neutral facility and/or outdoor field. I can give lessons at a local academy where I am employed part-time but they book the lessons and have a different fee schedule. Please call me to discuss!
$60/hour (local; travel less than 5 miles)
$70/hour (6-10 miles)
How did you get started teaching?
I have been coaching baseball for nearly 14 years. I started coaching tee-ball when my son was young and progressed up to high-level travel ball.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with players ranging from 6-20 years old. I provide individual instruction for boys and girls alike. I can provide sound instruction regardless of age and skill level!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am extremely proud of the fact my daughter plays softball in college and my son plays baseball in college. I am grateful to have coached them over the last 12+ years and they possess the academics, attitude, and ability to play at the college level.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Please be open and honest with your instructor about why you are looking for individual instruction. Ask questions about the instructor's background and current situation as it relates to baseball.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Are they coaching currently? How long have they been giving instruction? What is their style of instruction? What makes them an "expert"? If you feel comfortable with their answers then hire that person! Instructors can make a big difference in a player's skill level and performance!
