About
Academic Enrichment
By focusing on homework and classroom enrichment, volunteer tutors provide students with the academic help they need succeed in school. Metro also empowers students to take their education into their own hands by connecting them with scholarship organizations.
Character Education
By learning about virtues and good habits, students develop the necessary tools to become better students, sons or daughters, sisters or brothers, and friends. In the character development class, students discuss and learn how to practically implement virtues such as respect, service to others, and hard work.
Individual Attention
Each student that participates in Metro programs is assigned a volunteer tutor-mentor that works with them the entire school year. With a focus on academics and character development, time spent each week with the same volunteer has proven to be an integral part of the overall improvement of the student.
Parent Involvement
Metro parent programs support parents in their role as the primary educators of their children through classes, discussions, conferences, and more.
For the past 20 years, 100% of our seniors have graduated high school and been accepted into college!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, the family applies online at midtown-metro.org/apply. Then, a member of the staff contacts the family to invite them in for a family interview and tour of the center. If they are accepted, they are advised of the start date and will be paired with a tutor. From there, it's a weekly commitment!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Tutors work one-on-one with students to help them on their homework. The tutor-student pair stays the same for the entirety of the year!
During our summer program, we have certified teachers teaching core curriculum classes 4 days a week and on the 5th day, we take a field trip!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Students attend the school year long program, which has rolling admission. The cost for the program is $250, but no one is turned away based on financial need. Programming is for students who are academically average, from the city of Chicago, and low-income.
How did you get started teaching?
Metro started 30+ years ago with the mission to help students grow in academics and character through the focus on individual attention and the acknowldgement of the parents as the primary educators.
What types of students have you worked with?
Girls entering 4th-12th grade attend our programs.
