Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I am a one step at a time type of coach. My plans are to evaluate the best process to help players succeed in their off season work toward improvement. No two players are alike.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Not only am I former player but every year I attend various coaches clinics each year to continue my education. I try to stay up to date on current techniques and drills. The common area of clinics I attend revolve around instruction that is customized to the player.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I have a standard starting for pricing. Usually I charge $50-$75 per 30/45 minute sessions. I will also charge the same if two players are involved. I have found that this allows parents to take turns on paying for lessons.
How did you get started teaching?
I am a former athlete that has a desire stay in the game. The best way I can explain it is, "I love it!" I really got started going back to the place I played travel ball and the high school I went too. My playing days were done early so, Im 43 and have been coaching baseball and basketball since the age of 20.
What types of students have you worked with?
ALL levels. I currently work players in grade school, high school and college level players.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My daughters first day as high school volleyball player. Our sons' first days as players were cool but that day made it real that my babies are growing to fast. Melissa and I have 4 boys and 2 girls. We live at the high school!!!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Comfort level. Instructor and player need to gel pretty quick. The player needs to trust that the instrucor is there for his best interest not just a money grab.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Simple. Admit your weekness as a player and get to work.
