Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Working with a new student means building them up and getting them comfortable with speaking to you when they are stumped by a question or problem. New students aren't quick to speak up or voice their confusion in their work, so being able to read body language, gauge their attention when it's too silent and adjust or pivot to new topics when the frustration is too high.
I like building a report with new students by asking about their hobbies, favorite foods, tv, and school subjects. It makes it easier to tutor and build a student when I focus on their strengths and tie them to the work they struggle through. Especially with remote learning enabled, building in brain breaks, moments to disconnect, and bargaining their favorite activities to get them to complete the difficult ones, I've found a good amount of success.
