About
I have a passion for photography and education. I really enjoy teaching others how to improve their skills, regardless of their present level of experience. I teach in a manner which balances theory and practice, for long-term retention. My major goal is to meet my clients’ level of desired skill, and not to make everyone a pro. Simple things can make huge improvements!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always try to determine the client's current skill level, and what kind of photography they are interested in. Then I create a very targeted plan to help reach their specific goals. I believe in speading the learning into many small sessions, allowing time for the client to test concepts out between sessions. Build on success!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a photographer for more than 40 years, with the last 20 years as a part-time professional. This includes weddings, senior portraits, family portraits, pets, and wildlife. My full-time profession is electrical engineering, which makes the technical aspects of photography easier. On the artistic side, I have been involved in oil painting, etc. since age 10. I thank my mom for enrolling me in art classes at such an early age.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standand pricing is at a rate of $60/hr, regardless of if the lesson is at the beginner or advanced level. The "per session" fee stated in my quotes is based on 90-minute sessions.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been teaching mathematics and physics as an adjunct instructor at the college level for years. My photography instruction leverages on the skills developed at the college level, but translated to the general skill level.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from the beginner through intermediate level.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
As part of gaining trust, I offer the first 15 minutes at no fee at all. This initial dialogue will give the client, and myself, time to establish a good raport and assess if the match of teacher and student is a good match.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I encourage students to think about what their photography goals really are, and write them down. Revist these goals the following day, and modify them if needed. Goals can also be staged as part of an overall learning plan.
