Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When I meet a new student, I take the first lesson to get to know them and learn where they are musically. Then I know where to start from.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I attended DePaul University and did a double major in Flute Performance and Music Education. I previously was a band director for 15 years, and I am now just teaching private lessons.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $25 for a 30 minute lesson and ask that you pay for the whole month of lessons at the first lesson of the month. If you need to miss a lesson, we can schedule a make-up lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
I began with teaching 4th-8th grade band at 3 different schools. It was a great first job and I learned quite a lot.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught students from 4th-12th grade to play band instruments and I specialize in flute and clarinet.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I have been playing flute for 29 years and clarinet for 18 years. I also play in the Wheaton Municipal Band in the summer and I play in the pit for musicals. I have many years of experience teaching students from the beginning all the way through high school.
