I have been studying with Michael for about a year now and I have improved so much! He prepares me for my auditions and performances and also teaches at the right pace for me. He is always involved in what I am working on musically and what I want to accomplish. He not only helps me with jazz but classical and theory. I enjoy learning with Michael every week and I see improvement between every lesson. He’s engaging, helpful, and I highly recommend him for lessons.

My son used to quickly lose interest in music lessons until he started flute with Michael. Michael knows just how to approach, encourage, and redirect my son. His suggestions and assignments are easily digestible and my son respects him, as do I.

As a classically trained saxophonist, I began studying jazz from scratch with Michael. Michael was an excellent teacher, explaining the fundamentals of jazz from every angle, covering music theory, ear training, listening, the history, and most importantly, the playing. Coming from a fundamentally different musical paradigm, I was initially nervous about starting to learn jazz, but after studying with Michael, I feel much more confident in my ability to both understand and play jazz

    Frequently asked questions

I like to meet a student where they are at and focus in on their interests and strengths. Brand new instrumentalists will feel comfortable holding their instrument by the first lesson. Experienced players will develop a plan for meeting their goals.

I have degrees in music education and jazz studies from Temple University and Western Michigan University. I've been teaching privately and in classroom settings for over ten years.

    $60/hour. I offer 60 minute, 45 minute, and 30 minute lessons.

I started teaching private lessons to middle schoolers when I was in high school, then I went on to get a degree in music education at Western Michigan University.

I have worked with students of all ages and ability levels.

I recently got to attend one of my student's gigs. He sounded great!

Students should come up with some goals that have to do with their favorite kind of music.
