    Frequently asked questions

My typical process for working with a new student is to have a conversation about their goals, skills, and tools.  If the student has appropriate tools, we begin to explore the media and tools and build upon the skills the student has.

I am willing to put together a kit or list for tools to make art experience the most successful and enjoyable.

I have a lifetime, really began making as a child with artist/craftspeople/naturalist/educator parents.  That makes at least 50 conscious years as a maker.

Professionally, I am a retired National Board Certiffied Teacher with 32 years of formal teaching.

I have taught infants to seniors.  I am a versitale art educator who believes in individualized instruction and am able to teach to the needs and levels of my students due to my long and deep experience.

I have also shown sold my artworks and products at art fairs, galleries, and shops.

My whole life I wanted to be a teacher, I taught my dolls in a little classroom in the basement.  I spent my youth/teenage/young adult years  working at daycares, summer camps, and after school programs.

I earned a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts- Fiber Arts emphasis.

I hold a Masters of Arts in Teaching for Elementary School

I hold a Masters of Science in Science Education

I hold a Masters of Liberal Arts- the Great Books

I hold teaching certificates in Science, Visual Arts, Media Library

I have taught Pre School through Eighth Grade in Public School art.

I have led numerous adult workshops focused on the arts, making and STEM.

An event I am fond of was the Warhol A to B exhibit at the Chicago Art Institute.  I had conducted a personal study of the artist, his life and works, read his books/journals and was delighted that at the end of it I was rewarded with the exhibition.

I would advise the student to know what media and tools they would like to explore.  The student should be comfortable asking questions and communicating with teacher.  The student should look for someone who has same vibe and work attitude.  I want to have fun and share my insights, skills and time with like minded students.

Students should think about what tools and goals they have.  It is okay to not know and to have an idea of what you'd like to experience.  Art brings joy into one's life, and the practice helps

us use our leisure time in a productive and meaningful way.
