About
Hi there! My name is Ashley and I am a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. My focus is in painting, drawing, and knitwear and a I love to work one on one or in small groups so I can get to know the student and their style so we can make art and textiles that will suit their taste. I love to emphasize texture and color so if you would like to improve skills in those areas I am your girl but I am happy to go over any of the elements and principals of design and help you explore new materials.
i also work with small children starting at 18 months old. I think art is a great way for children to develop language and fine motor skills.

What I enjoy most about my work is starting with basic supplies and letting the work sort of morph over time. I go into my pieces without a set plan for the most part and tend to add elements as I go. My main focus is to create a story for the viewer and take the audience out of this world for a moment.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
With a new student I like to start by exploring a variety of materials and techniques on different surfaces. I also like to use a range of subject matter and have them paint from the mind to see where their creative practice thrives the most and what combinations they enjoy using.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a graduate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where I focused on painting drawing and knitwear. From there I worked for Gold Mind Arts and One Strange Bird teaching art to children. Following the teaching I decided to take my art to street shows and festivals to get more of a following as well as starting a home daycare with a focus on art. I also sold my work at Andersonville Galleria for about a year and am currently working with a social media manager to gain online exposure.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
For lessons I usually start at $20 per hour but it ranges depending on size and cost of the surface that the client wants to use. If the student prefers that I pick the medium and materials we can do it at a very reasonable price. I am also into found object art if anyone is interested in making unique work at a low cost!
