Drawing And Painting Lessons With Paul Salsieder
About
My name is Paul! I have been painting murals in the Southeast Wisconsin area for three years and this experience has afforded me a wide range of practical knowledge in relation to making artwork in a variety of styles. I am working artist and recent graduate of Carthage College with a degree in Art History and Studio Art.
As a teacher I am drawn to expanding my students' range of techical skills in whatever media they practice as well as helping them become a confident conversationalist in the demanding and often highly intellectual art world. Therefore lesson time will include not only hands-on practical instuction, but also converstation, and exposure to artwork both traditional and contemporary.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I have a "fundamentals first" approach to my teaching. I believe it is important to spend the first few lesson getting students into good habits and working on traditional excersices. Weightlifters don't lift 300 pound wieghts right away after all, they build up to that point. The same is true for drawing and painting. After working with someone for a few sessions I will tailor thier course to be specific to their individual needs and aspirations.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors of Arts from Carthage College in Studio Art and Art History. I have also been a working artist and muralist for three years. My experiences range from working in museums, art galleries, and even coordinating my own art shows.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
-My rate for a private lesson is $50/hr
-Classes and lessons in groups varies depending on the venu.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I think the most important thing in choosing an art instructor is to make sure they can talk about artwork at more than a simply technical level. Process is important, but the meaning and the reason for doing whatever artwork you are doing is just as important.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
-Be sure to consider that there will be a supply cost to most of these lessons. For instance, if you are taking a painting course with me and you don't have any painting supplies, those are going be somethint that you will have to provide. I am happy to help any students throught the process of buying art supplies on are first day of class. I know it is not easy to sit in front of a wall of paint tubes agonizing over whether or not you've chosen the right one.
