About

Carol Ishman is happy to work with students at any level in both piano and voice. This includes coaching for performers as well. Several contest winners in both piano and voice have been trained at Ishman Music Studio . Carol is a two-time President of the West Suburban Music Teachers Association and is a frequent judge for competitions throughout the area.

Although in-person lessons are preferred, because students often progress more quickly, virtual instruction is also possible. All students are expected to learn some theory, including note reading and rhythm skills. We often move to music, sing or do other activities to make learning fun.

In order to listen to the music that students have practiced, introduce some theory or new music, and answer any questions that come up, the minimum lesson length is 45 minutes for all students. Longer lessons are also encouraged.

Piano students must own or be willing to invest in a piano or keyboard.

Voice lessons are available for adults who want to improve their singing skills. Beginning voice students over the age of 12 who are interested in classical voice training are welcomed. Other musical styles may be added as students gain skill.

Everyone is musical to some degree. Music study for children even activates an area of the brain that only music study can do. Music study for adults keeps the brain active at any age. Anyone who is interested can learn and improve and enjoy music.

Currently there are limited openings on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday during the day.

My dentist asked me to go to his home and evaluate a piano someone gave him in payment for dental services.  After visiting his home, I left with six students in that neighborhood!

I have worked with children, age 5 and older, at every level.  I taught adult beginners and advanced students at the local college for several years.

A young student of mine who was having a virtual lesson.  Her younger sister would often come in to listen.

The younger sister came in one day recently an announced “Last week, I had a birthday and I’m 5. I know how to match the fingers of my hands together and I can play a song.”

After two weeks, her mom was convinced and we started lessons.
