About this pro

Hello my name is Steve Malichi. I have played, coached, and been around some of Indiana's finest players. I am a teacher of the game. My father was a coach for several years and taught my brothers and I the ins and out early of the game. I have a 16 year old son that I coach and also train in the gym and a 5year son that is an athlete. If you go to my Instagram account you can find videos of my son's workouts. I make sure to always be respectful but push any player that I work with to their highest peak of success. I am not professional but I get results. I work on cardio, core, strength, shooting, passing, dribbling, re-bounding and mental confidence.  So many of our youth do not believe in themselves and as a coach that's where you start. I do not own a gym but have one I can rent.  I played high school basketball at Connersville Sr. High school here in Indiana. I am a graduate of Indiana University. I played division 3 Basketball at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois. I also practiced against the Indiana Fever for three years. Now I coach and train my son and the youth in my community .

I love seeing my students grasp what I'm teaching them, and then watching them use the lessons in the game . I also Love seeing the personal improvements that the students make to enhance their performance of play.

He’s doing amazing things on basketball skills with my daughter. Her goal is to make her 7th grade team, and Steve is helping her reach that goal. Thank you!

Malachi was a very interactive trainer for me. He pushed me to excellence and was nothing but positive during my time training with him. If anyone wants to be recommended to getting better mentally and physically Malichi is the right man for you but if you want to be average he's not the person for you because he will push u to get the fullest out of you!!

My son really enjoyed his experiences with Steve. His attitude after the workouts were good and he felt like he learned a lot while gaining confidence in the skills he was developing. Overall it was a very good experience with Steve helping him. The passion Steve has for teaching the game is obvious and he is good with relating to the youth.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I usually like to get to know my students first so I will put them through a series of drills to see for myself what they can and can't do. Then the second time I focus on those set skills that they need advancement in. I also work on agility and speed. I teach structure and life skills on and off the court as well.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have played basketball all of my life. My father was a basketball coach. I also played in high school at Connersville, in college at MacMurray College in Jacksonville Illinois, I also practiced against the Indiana Fever for three years. Now I work with my 13 year old son getting him ready to go to highschool.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I genuinely charge $30 an hour for training. The reason I said that rate is because I have to travel some and also I may need to rent out a gym in some situations.

How did you get started teaching?

I am a teacher during the day, and have been coaching for years so teaching the game of basketball comes naturally to me.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with kids from 4 years old all the way up to 17 years old boys and girls. I do skills and assessment training and also strength and agility training in the gym.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I have a 2 year old son that can throw a perfect spiral, has great form on shooting the ball, and can hit a baseball from a pitch.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

You definitely want to hire someone that you are comfortable with, that is knowledgeable in the field, and that is reliable. I am all the above.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

You want to think about what you want to get out of the services and of ways to make you're all around game better.
