About
I use creativity to motivate students. I teach using a stundent's strengths to build up weaknesses. I have been tutoring since 1997. I love to tutor. Learn more at my website www.discoveryencourager.com.
I enjoy seeing the sparkle in a student's eye when he or she has grasped a concept or is really excited about a subject. This type of thing happens almost every session and it makes tutoring a joy.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
In most cases I consult over the phone to find out the needs and then I get started right away with lesson planning. Our first meeting will be a full lesson which may include some assessments, but basically we get to know each other as we work on your areas of need. I also like to know a student's interests and strengths so I can incorporate those into the lesson as well.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a master's degree in curriculum and instruction and a master's of arts in teaching in mild interventions. I have been tutoring since 1997. I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach which is especially effective for students with dyslexia but helpful to many other students as well. I can teach language arts skills such as reading, spelling, writing, and vocabulary. I also am skilled in teaching math up through Algebra I. I enjoy assisting with projects of all types (art, science, social studies) and preparing students for public speaking tasks.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
The price for my lessons ranges from $25 per hour to $35 per hour. If you travel and meet me within 5 miles of my home, then you will pay the lower amount. If I need to travel farther than 5 miles to meet up with you, then you will pay a higher amount than $25 per hour.
