About
I offer a well-rounded approach to learning the piano, blending traditional note reading with the development of a strong ear for melody, harmony, and rhythm. My students not only learn to play from sheet music but also gain the ability to play by ear, giving them greater flexibility and confidence in their musical abilities. Whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your skills, my lessons are tailored to meet your goals and enhance your overall musicianship across all genres including jazz, blues, gospel, and pop and classical music.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin with an intake focusing on ear training and an assessment of the student's theory and technique level. From there, I tailor exercises in melody, harmony, and rhythm to their skill level, and we explore music in their desired genre to create a personalized learning experience.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a classically trained pianist and have furthered my studies with accomplished pianists and jazz musicians at the New England Conservatory of Music and Berklee College of Music.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard fee is $100/hr for piano or voice lessons. However, I'm open to discussing discounts/negotiating rates on a case-by-case basis.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a diverse range of students, from beginners taking their first steps in piano to advanced musicians looking to refine their technique and express their creativity. I've worked with students of all ages and all skill levels.
My students include those interested in blues, R&B, jazz enthusiasts, and individuals who simply want to explore their musical interests. I tailor my approach to each student's unique goals and skill level to provide a personalized and effective learning experience.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When choosing a piano teacher, it's important to find someone whose teaching style aligns with your learning preferences and goals.
Look for a teacher with a solid background in both classical and contemporary methods if you're interested in a well-rounded approach. Additionally, consider their experience with students at your skill level and their ability to adapt lessons to your specific interests and needs. A good teacher should also offer a balance of structured learning and creative exploration.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should consider what their musical goals are—whether they want to learn classical pieces, improvise in jazz, or simply play for enjoyment.
It’s also helpful to think about their current skill level, how much time they can dedicate to practice, and what kind of learning style suits them best.
Understanding whether they want to focus on reading sheet music, playing by ear, or both can also guide the lessons in the right direction.
