About
I strive to bring out the best in each student, having been involved with teaching several World Champion Bagpipers I have developed a teaching method that is fun, straight forward and exciting for the student, using modern technology such as apps and online teaching when required or in some cases students prefer the "Old School" method ! I aim to tailor lessons to suit the student.
I really enjoy watching the progress a student makes, especially when they're ready to start on their first set of bagpipes !

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I usually try to tailor the teaching to each student, everyone is different so I have to be flexible.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been teaching Bagpipes for over 30 years, things have changed over the years with new technology making the teaching more accessible throughout the world via online but nothing beats an in person lesson. I've taught all ages from 5 to 90s, I've been very fortunate to have been involved with the best in the field over the years winning 6 Band World Championships and many solo competitions. I've performed all over the World playing for the Queen at Balmoral Castle, performed at Boston Symphony Hall and played the Scottish National Anthem on the roof top of the Scotland Rugby Stadium to a packed 67000 fans !
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I usually charge around $25 for a half hour $50 for the hour based on my actual teaching time, if I have to travel it increases based on distance. I provide a tailored app and videos/sheet music so the students never have to wait there's always plenty to get on with.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching my brother when I was about 12-13 years old I wanted him to be ready for his first lesson with my Bagpipe Instructor. I started teaching for real around 19 years of age when I became Pipe Major of a local Pipe Band who later became World Champions (My 1st Worlds title)
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all ages, from all types of backgrounds.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Playing for Her Majesty the Queen a couple of years ago, meeting her and talking with her was a pleasure.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When trying to find a Bagpipe Instructor it's very difficult to find someone who is Open/Professional level, this is the level a bagpiper reaches when they've competed for several years at the top successfully, then trying to find someone who's not just trying to make some $ on the side, being passionate about Bagpiping and trying to get the best out of the student is paramount.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Can you commit to a practice routine ?
Do you want to play Bagpipes just for fun or competition or both ?
Are you interested in playing in a band ?
Have you thought about the costs involved (purchasing bagpipes $1200) average
