Mary Young is a versatile flutist. Her love of the Classical Era and French flute music has led her to develop a full yet light sound. However, her true passion lies within the New Music scene.
In 2015 Mary and two colleagues at The Hartt School commissioned Pitchforks and Crow’s Feet by local Hartford composer Kyle Grimm. They premiered the piece at the Hartford New Music Festival on October 16, 2015. In the summer of 2013, Mary attended the Cortona Sessions for New Music Festival in Cortona Italy. There, she premiered and collaborated on three works by three different composers. Mary is also actively learning improvisation, both contemporary and jazz.
Ever expanding her repertoire and understanding of the flute, Mary graduated with her Master in Music in flute performance from The Hartt School of Music, West Hartford, CT in May 2016. There, Mary studied with New York City Opera flutist, Janet Arms. Currently, Mary is teaching and performing in Boston, MA.
