Yulia Berry's Flute Studio
About
I am offering a carefully crafted curriculum of a well-rounded classical music education that allows to fill many gaps in the music growth of a student. The structure of an Academic year is carefully thought and tested for 30 years of my teaching experience.
Besides developing the fine flute skills, the students learn fundamental concepts of music, including music theory, solfeggio, music history, learn about composers, work on the rhythm development, get a valuable experience playing with a professional accompanist and in various ensembles.
The dedication, enthusiasm, and experience I bring as a flute teacher allow my students to concentrate on more than just playing an instrument. Nurturing responsibility, encouraging patience and kindness, instilling musical sensitivity, and developing mind and listening skills are some of the special features of my teaching philosophy.
I focus on developing strong fundamental flute skills, such as a diaphragm-based breathing, developing finger technique, ear training, working on tune, rich tone and vibrato. I have a lot of different exercises in my arsenal that will help to build these skills and draw on a variety of methods, depending on the individual interests and needs of the student.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first lesson will give us a chance to get to know each other. It will allow me to assess your current skill level, strengths and any areas that need work. It will also give you a chance to ask questions. If you have had previous lessons, bring all your books and a prepared piece to play for me. We will discuss what goals or plans you have in mind and I may recommend some books/music for you to purchase based on your skill level.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am Founder of Web Flute Academy and New England Flute Institute, Creator and Developer of the popular "All about Flute" Mobile app, highly experienced Flutist and Mentor teaching at all levels, with a Doctor of Music Arts (DMA) degree focused in Flute Performance, Pedagogy and Music Education from the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov (Russia).
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
What types of students have you worked with?
All levels, ages 5 - 78. Over 25 years of teaching experience.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Our beautiful recitals. We hold at least 2 formal recitals per Academic year and work with a professional accompanist. We also did a Virtual Recital and an Online Scales Challenge during the covid pandemic.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The level of education and the teaching experience really matter. Also, the teacher should be passionate about the lessons and music and keep your best interests and goals in mind! The teacher should provide performing opportunities.
