About

My name is Charles Blackwell-Isler, I am the Founder of Hoop Savvy. The reason why I started this was to create a “savvy” basketball source for the basketball community. I'm doing this for everyone that loves the game of basketball with hopes of expanding, connecting, & progressing with other programs & entities all across the world. This opportunity will be mainly for youth age 5-18 & beyond; Collegiate & Professional). We really would like to help shift the culture. The way the game is looking now, theres a huge increase all across the board from all over the world; especially in Rhode Island. We see nothing but progress on all levels of the game whether it's playing, coaching, training, even Refereeing; the game of basketball has evolved by the year at a dramatic rate. We're here to remind the basketball world that everyday is part of your journey & it takes a certain mentality to persevere and thrive within the game of basketball and throughout life. Basketball is rapidly becoming one of the worlds most popular team sport. The growth of the game is quite intriguing. These numbers are astounding; over 450 Million people play basketball all around the world whether it be playing at the beginner, amateur, intermediate, or professional level and that number will inflate substantially annually. There's just so many opportunities this particular sport possesses. Coming from the Smallest City-State in America (Providence Rhode Island), It's a lot easier to witness the growth of the game because it's just so small out here in Rhode Island you're bound to catch wind of the latest news, events, and highlights of local players and organizations. And in some ways it may be hard to see potential due to the limitations, lack of programming & funding, and violence throughout the city; there are so many barriers & distractions for youth throughout the City.... I want to create a system that infuses the game of basketball and life skills A.K.A “Hoop Savvy". I would like to create a program that is all year round and instill a curriculum within this basketball program. The curriculum will be based of 5 categories. Those categories are the 5 Social Emotional Learning Competencies; Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social-Awareness, Responsible Decision Making, & Relationship Skills. From these 5 categories we will create a bond (brotherhood/sisterhood/family). Our ultimate goal is to help athletes progress both on and off of the court. Why I'm doing this? Because no one else is! I believe that one day Hoop Savvy will be able to provide assistance in various cities & states in various middle schools & high schools (once we build a solid foundation, become more connected, & we're more established). I will lead by example. I believe Hoop Savvy will change hundreds and thousands of lives everywhere someday. With the right people involved. This will amplify and help the game of basketball evolve one community at a time & also create a network of savvy individuals that'll flourish collectively & help lead & guide young adults & teens from all walks of life.

Our main goals here at Hoop Savvy are to; motivate the student-athletes in our community, build strong & healthy relationships throughout the community, provide hands on training, and give student-athletes, Novice, Middle School, High School Collegiate, Professional; athletes from all walks of life a chance to reflect & give back to their community and communities surrounding. Leading by example.... We'd like to help create unique opportunities for all of our participants, then pass them the torch & so on.... Basketball is a tool and we will use it to our advantage. We will provide unique skills that will help them both on and off the court. We feel it's our duty to provide unique training & life skills to our youth & our community. We will help create a pedigree of savvy athletes.

How often have you witnessed a (basketball) program that's run all year round for young children & teens, adults, college athletes, and professional athletes? With the right resources we can help provide access to gyms, provide a curriculum, strengthen relationships, help bring through life skills, & lead by example to provide change with in our communities. Basketball "builds bridges" and the game is growing at a rapid rate. Let's help bridge the gap. Here at Hoop Savvy our responsibilities are; elevate individual(s) all-around performance in a team setting & build, connect, & create healthy habits.

Hoop Savvy organization designed to connect and inform athletes, and those involved in basketball to beneficial and reliable resources, using basketball as a platform to promote a healthy and productive life style. We are not your typical basketball program, we are a community of basketball people who come together to address critical topics and provide insight both on and off of the basketball court.

Our mission here at Hoop-Savvy is to connect, inspire, support and strengthen athletes from all walks of life. To insure we never lose sight of what is important both on & off of the court. We want to bring both inspiration & innovation to every athlete we can. Our mission is to establish a culture of competition, devotion, & hard work. We simply want to create an atmosphere that nurtures the development of life skills, values, & sportsmanship. To create a source of pride in the basketball community. We will personally involve ourselves in the lives of these young men & woman, becoming acquainted with their hopes & dreams, fear & insecurities, while generously providing them with the qualities & character traits that will make them successful both on and off of the court. We're committed to developing excellence in individual & team performance through a consistent & comprehensive approach to player & team development. We’re improving lives by invited ng athletes to create better futures & amplify their game(s) using the tools of basketball. Our youth programs and community projects are making urban neighborhoods safer, healthier, and more sustainable, while empowering athletes from all walks of life to become the best version of themselves.

Providing a quality & effective program for the community is our objective.
